pilot-mailsync

pilot-mailsync is an application to transfer outgoing mail from and deliver incoming mail (from a mail source like IMAP, POP or local files) to a Palm OS device using the Palm Mail application. It relies on the libraries installed by pilot-link.

The current 0.9.1 release can be downloaded as .tar.gz.

There is a mailing list dedicated to pilot-mailsync. Please send questions and patches to this list.

FAQ

• My new Palm/Sony/whatever doesn't have the old Palm Mail application installed
  
  People who prefer the old Palm Mail application and really want to use pilot-mailsync can go to the page of GNUGotMail and download a version of the Palm Mail app.
  An alternative is e*Mail.


• Support for VersaMail
  
  Basic knowledge of the database format is/will be in pilot-link 0.12. Starting to experiment with that.
  
  
• What about support for the maildir-format ?
  
  The c-client which does the actual talking with the mail-source has no built-in support. There are patches for c-client and/or pine which could be easily applied. I am not going to work on this.
  
  
• I have tried using pilot-mailsync with an SSL imap server and get the error message
  ** Error: Certificate failure for mail.mymail.somewhere: self signed certificate: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx mail.mymail.somewhere xxxxxxxxxxxx
  ** Error: fatal error: couldn't open mailbox
  
  Look at the somewhat hidden info in docs/mailbox concerning the mailbox name:
  "/novalidate-cert" do not validate certificates from TLS/SSL server, needed if server uses self-signed certificates


• I just ran pilot-mailsync, but all it says is "0 messages delivered to/from handheld". What's wrong?
  
  Check the Hotsync settings in your Palm Mail application carefully. pilot-mailsync uses these settings to determine what sort of sync to perform (as well as other settings like your signature and truncation length).


• I get the the error: *** GTK >= 1.2.0 not installed - please install first ***. But I have gtk installed.
  
  Check if the devel-packages are also installed.
